Fishing
Imagine yourself in the tranquillity of the south west countryside, on your own exclusive beat of the River Exe landing your dry fly in front of a rising trout or just as your fly is swinging through the pool it goes tight and you find yourself attached to a salmon!
Our exclusive beat on the west bank of the River Exe, extending a quarter of a mile upstream from Stoodleigh bridge and approximately half a mile downstream our guests can explore the varied fly fishing opportunities for brown trout, sea trout and salmon.
If you are new to fly fishing we can offer tuition on a full day basis inclusive of rods and equipment hire. There are spots on our beat where one can learn to cast in little more than wellies, so no other specialist equipment is required
For the more experienced angler our beat is perfect to “hone your skills” or to learn a new casts and techniques under expert guidance.
Shooting
Cruwys Morchard is a stunning West Country shoot which is famed for its high quality birds, deep valleys and sumptuous hospitality – regarded my many as one of the best pheasant shoots in Devon.
Situated just south of Exmoor National Park, Cruwys Morchard covers 2,000 acres with 15 drives based around the large valley which make for such good quality sport. There is a mixture of drives from woodland (conifer and hardwoods) and game crops. Many of the drives feature steep valleys which offer not just high, straight-over birds but fast, swinging, slashing crossers.
There is an impressive attention to detail on the estate with well-maintained grassland leading to each peg, so standing guns are always able to find their position easily. The drives are all open and there is no snap-shooting, thus allowing time for any gun to prepare his/her shot and execute it to the highest standard, making it one of the best pheasant shoots in the country.
The lodge is also extremely well appointed with a full bar and roaring fire.

Tiverton Golf Club
Tiverton has always been regarded as one of Devon’s finest parkland courses, but with recent course improvements, Tiverton can now boast that the course is arguably the best parkland course in the South West.
Improvements include their new signature 12th hole, a short downhill par 3 nestled by a lake and a challenging remodelled 16th which is the beginning of a tough finish at Tiverton Golf Club.
